Teen To Be Charged As Adult For Bringing Loaded Handgun, Drugs Into Maryland HS: Police

A search for illegal drugs on a teen student at a Maryland high school led to the seizure of a loaded weapon inside the building, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

Officials say that shortly before 11 a.m. on Wednesday morning, a School Resource Officer assigned to Fairmont Heights High School in Landover was tipped off about security seizing a gun from the 17-year-old.

Police say that a witness notified administrators at the school that the teen - whose name was not released due to his age - may have been in possession of drugs on school grounds.

However, during a search of the student, they found both the drugs and found a handgun with an attached machine conversion device.

After being arrested, the teen was charged as an adult with:

Handgun on person;
Dangerous weapon on school property;
Possession of a firearm by a minor;
Loaded handgun on a person;
Machine gun - aggressive purpose;
Rapid fire trigger activator violation;
Possession of a controlled substance.

Information about his initial bond or court appearance has not been released.
